Update []:
Following a couple of leaks regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong's price, Team Cherry has now provided official confirmation via its social media channel.
As detailed by the developer, Silksong will cost $19.99 / €19.99 / ¥2300, frankly putting the game at a much lower cost than we had anticipated. Seriously, they really could've gotten away with pricing this thing at around $30-40, so fair play.
There's no confirmed UK price at the time of writing, but thanks to the magic of modern exchange rates, we can probably assume it'll also be £19.99.
Hollow Knight: Silksong launches this week on 4th September 2025.
Original Story: After a long wait and multiple delays, Team Cherry's anticipated release Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally releasing next month – and the cost of the eagerly awaited game appears to have been revealed (thanks, Eurogamer).
While it's not an official confirmation, a now-deleted listing on Gamestop that marked the game's price as $20 was spotted by fans of the series.
Many assumed this was merely a placeholder price, but Dealabs leaker Billbil-Kun seems confident it's correct, and has even gone as far as to reveal not only the Steam price but also how much it will be sold for on the rival GOG digital storefront.
The leaker has at least confirmed that the game will sell for under $20 / £20, with the UK price potentially being as low as £16.75 on Steam; the US price is pegged at $19.99.
For the sake of comparison, the original Hollow Knight game is currently available on Nintendo's eShop for $15.00 / £10.99.
Sadly, the Switch and Switch 2 price points haven't been revealed, and Dealabs appears to be confident that, at this point in time, there's no physical version of the game planned – that will almost certainly change post-launch, we'd argue.
If you are wondering if you'll get your money's worth out of this title, the ideas for Silksong have apparently been stacking up for some time, with the team previously mentioning how it could have kept going but ultimately needed to complete the game. In saying this, the developer has already got amibitous plans for additional content.
Hollow Knight: Silksong launches on September 4th, 2025. It's coming to Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC.

Deal of the century if true!
A reasonably priced video game? In this day and age??? What madness is this?!
Funny I was just trying to find information on the eShop price. Deal of the century was previously Hollow Knight at launch @Spoony_Tech, this will undoubtedly be comparable. It’s almost guaranteed it’ll be worth whatever they ask for it, but I think it will be very generously priced.
Seems like a great deal, can't wait to play it!
$ 20 / £ 20 will be a killer price-point for this game, and probably the perfect sweet-spot to entice those that are 'on the fence' but not yet certain about committing.
I was expecting around ~30$ / 30£, and would have happily paid this, and equally I think Team Cherry wouldn't have been outrageous in asking this either.
If it turns out to be true, seems to be a very consumer-friendly pricing strategy.... even moreso considering the landscape of gaming becoming an increasingly expensive hobby.
ahem… Nintendo paying attention?
Any business can charge what they like - this is incredibly good value of true but then I paid 55 quid for Bonanza and I thought that was incredibly good value for the 40 hours. I got out of it and I remember paying almost £100 for a street fighter 2 cartridge a long time ago so pretty much everything seems cheap these days. Please do remember people out there you do not have to buy these games ! They are not threatening you with a gun.
They could charge $500 for physical collector bundles and they would all sell out instantly.
At first I thought they are leaving lots of money on table with no physical option and cheap price point. But actually they are going to have a lot of people immediately buy digital, then also buy physical down the road. So it’s not a bad strategy
It's an indie game, what did you expect, 90...?? Please, guys.
The original Hollow Knight was released for 15 bucks, the sequel couldn't cost much more considering it's quite samey (which is not a bad thing, mind you).
Usually my backlog's too hefty and my wallet's too light to bother buying things at full price. But a game like Silksong at $20 is likely to be an exception.
@CoreXY because everyone knows that a new Mario game isn’t worth more than 20
$20 makes no sense the first game still sells for 35 bucks..
Exactly what I was expecting the price to be. Since this is an indie game, they don’t have to price it at the usual industry standard. They can price it at whatever they want to.
No physical, no buy. Right, everyone?
In the words of Guybrush…
@AussieMcBucket Right! 😂
@johnedwin
"https://store.steampowered.com/app/367520/Hollow_Knight/"
am I confused? I'm seeing 15 regular price.
@AussieMcBucket speak for yourself
I'm wondering what the squiggly line all over the top illustration is supposed to be. It looks like it was vandalized by a child. 🤔
@johnedwin Where is it 35 bucks? Or is that a typo? It's $15.
@StewdaMegaManNerd but a new mariokart game isn’t worth 80
@BTB20 https://www.bestbuy.com/product/hollow-knight-nintendo-switch/J3R8ZQZ93T
@CoreXY Yeah, sure Nintendo is watching from afar and crying desperately for seeing other devs charging $20 for a game they would easily charge $60 or $70 for.
And no, they won't learn
If it's like HK as it appears to be, the price is right. That was definitely a $15-20 game.
@The_Nintendo_Pedant it's a thread tied to their needle weapon.
Like I said in a previous article, it's mind boggling that Team Cherry refuses to communicate on such a simple information and that we have to rely on leaks and speculations, as always. Like... why ? Why not just release a tweet saying "hey, it's 20 bucks", and be done ?
But hey, that follows their track record of not saying anything for 6 years...
If Silksong is anything like the original Hollow Knight in all its aspects including quality, scope and so on (it certainly looks like that but still, we'll see) then yep, this starting price is a steal as others have already mentioned here - while I'm not sure when I'll be able to play it myself between all the games I'm currently playing etc. I'm looking forward to it and I'll try to get it as soon as possible if not even day one anyway... and of course I'm looking forward to finally playing the original Hollow Knight myself, but at this point I might start with Silksong and then go backwards!
At 20 Euro I might buy it at launch, otherwise I'll wait for a discount.
@8thDoctor
thanks! I can't say that is communicated well in the composition. I can think of three ways off the top of my head that it could have possibly been. ✌️ not trying to be overly critical, but considering the heaps of praise this series continuously gets, I don't feel too awful about it 😂👍
EDIT - I can see now that it actually IS attached to what i gather is a "needle weapon," being held at an odd angle by what I can assume is an arm. Perhaps they just threw it and it kind of went all over and now it has just been caught. 👍
as a frame of animation it would probably work better in context, I'll assume that's what this is. ✌️
anyway thanks for indulging your local Pedant.
Now I understand why so many Indie devs are running away from this game. This is a stellar price.
@johnedwin wait, what? where are you looking? on switch its 15, and on steam its 15...
@Hee-ho-master He's looking at physical copies, which is extremely misleading considering cheaper games like this are almost always more expensive in physical form
@johnedwin that’s the physical copy. If you click on “digital” on the page you linked it will show the digital price.
Still not listed on the eShop, I'll believe it'll be out on Thursday when it'll be playable on my Switch.
Sounds awesome, nice to see it's coming out! Hopefully a physical edition gets announced for anyone who wants it, even if it's more expensive.
I would have been pleased with $25, so $20 is quite a treat! They could have gotten away with $50 and still done well, so hats-off to them for caring about their customers!
That Hornet image is fan art, it's not from Team Cherry.
You can’t fault the integrity of Team Cherry. 20 Rupees is the same price as some Nintendo upgrade packs for Switch 2.
Replaying Hollow Knight and it's absolutely nuts this game sold for only $15.
@Anachronism Even if it was over $20, Silksong might be the last game I ever purchase day one, let alone at full price. Every single game I’ve purchased this year has been on sale, and I’m trying to make my purchases be an average of $20 per game.
One of the many indie games that is an absolute steal at its price. Feels wrong to pay so little for both this and UFO50. Can't wait to jump in this week.
I would have gladly paid $80 for this one lol, so I will certainly shell out the 75% less for SILKSONG TOMORROW (close enough OK?)!!
@johnedwin Facepalm. It's 35 physical, which for budget priced games is almost always more expensive. It's 15 digital, which is how most people bought it. So Silksong at 20 digital might be 40 physical.
the first hollow knight was such a steal like worth 45$ and i got it for 8
could feel like ya owe them, but it might suck getting the game early since they already said they have oodles of ideas for expansions
They could easily ask a full price, but if this is true hats off for the developers!
Also I'm buying all indie games as digital so I don't mind if the physical is more expensive.
Edit: One question, why are they only revealing US and UK prices? Ever heard this little currency called Euro?
I'm very happy with this but honestly I would pay 40. I genuinely think they're selling themselves short on this one.
They’ll still make an absolute killing pricing it at £20 all while gaining a ton of goodwill from fans who have been waiting so long for it. Also lowers the barrier to those who maybe didn’t like the first game so much but may enjoy this one for whatever big changes it makes from Hollow Knight (if anything).
They could definitely charge more but £20 or less feels on brand for this developer who has historically been nothing but generous (in everything but info on upcoming games 🤪).
But the first was only 15 … DROP THE PRICE!!!!! 😂
@AussieMcBucket does the physical have a date ?
@Cia it’s an American company. UK price was assumed.
Oh wow. I played HK less than a year ago, so I was planning to wait a good while. I'll buy it day 1 at $20 just to support them if they're being so reasonable with the price!
@BrokenCiv i am a physical collector... if i have the option for that that is what i buy..
This 100% justifies double-dipping for the physical when it eventually releases
@The_Nintendo_Pedant you’re not confused. He is confused. Hollow Knight has never been more than 15 bucks since its launch day.
@the_beaver Hollow Knight was released 8 years ago, everything has been adjusted to inflation. AAA games went from being $60 to $70/$80 in that time and now top indie releases like Deltarune and Hades 2 are $25/$30.
those two guys a multi millionaires, they could even release the game for 10 and it would easily backup their costs
@fenlix You're right, but considering the original Hollow Knight was quite cheap when it was released (most indie games used to cost 20-25 at the time), now it doesn't shock me to see they're still releasing the game cheaper than most.
Better reason now that they got TONS of money from the first one (remember they're only 3 or 4 people) and they know this will sell like hotcakes.
@The_Nintendo_Pedant It’s her thread. She fights with a sewing needle and thread.
By the way, did anyone notice the first Hollow Knight was released around the time the first Switch was released? It seems they've waited for the Switch 2 to go out to release HK 2. Funny.
Cd keys also had it up for £19.99 uk price for a steam key but not available for pitches
About what I expected.
I'm impressed; with all the momentum behind Silksong, they easily could have charged $39 and still made 80% of the same sales numbers.
Has there been any word as to whether it’s one game across Switch 1&2 or two separate versions?
I’m so happy this is finally being released.
@AussieMcBucket depends for me. If an indie game is digital only, than I can accept it, especially if its on GOG.com because at least you get a DRM-free offline installer to keep. If there's physical I'll generally prefer that of course. Game key cards are absolutely off the table though.
£20/25 seems about right. That's the going rate for hyped indie games atm judging by something like Hades 2 (a similar benchmark in terms of hype and interest in the developer's previous title).
@the_beaver I'm sure this is an earnest question but Hollow Knight blew up because of the Switch release so I'm sure it was in their thinking to wait until Switch 2 launched for similar reasons.
@nintendolife
It is officially confirmed that is indeed $19.99
https://x.com/teamcherrygames/status/1962330350681735642?s=46
Or if you're a Kickstart backer, then it's FREE! 💪💪💪
@N00BiSH That means EVERYONE.
@Coffee-Waffle Yeah, never. Thanks, Nintendo.
@eldersnake Seems a little murky. But you do you.
@AussieMcBucket You can't speak for everyone. Trust me, I've tried.
@CJD87 Other than consoles, the price of gaming hasn’t increased much over the past 30 years. If anything, it’s a lot cheaper nowadays with all the sales. It was about 50 dollars for a new NES game, which took a far less effort to make than big titles do today and often not if great quality.
Do they KNOW that people would have happily paid $40?
@N00BiSH
I know complete craziness, makes you actually want to go and buy a video game! if other companies can do it why can't Nintendo.
That is a very reasonable price! Glad they opted for this, instead of being ultra greedy. Prices like these make me want to pay full price for an excellent product!
I never really get too up in arms about prices either way, but that's gonna be a steal.
Finally a honest price. These guys deserve support and will get mine, even though I still haven't played any of their games yet.
Surprised there’s no UK price confirmation. Current exchange rate points to £17.99 as equivalent to confirmed US pricing.
Given how much I got from Hollow Knight I honestly wouldn't have questioned a much higher price tag. I mean it's really nice that it's not that high, but I know I would have gotten my money's worth from it.
I actually went to pre-order it on the eShop last week and couldn't find it there. Kinda surprised that now the release date is set it wasn't even in the 'coming soon' section.
Okay, this is good and everything, great value and absolutely I'll be buying this, but $20 does not equal £20...
It'll be €50+ after all DLC, but it's still a great price for the base game.
@DangerZone $20 USD doesn't equal 20€ either, but here we are.
@LeChuck All of the DLC for Hollow Knight was free, and I doubt they would do anything different with Silksong.
@N00BiSH Too late!
@KoopaTheGamer Ah! I didn't know that. Excellent.
That's the price of the first game if I remember correctly. It's definitely the right move.
Alright guys! Let's put our money where our collective mouth is!
…where’s the price in GBP?
@DangerZone I believe the USD price is pre-tax, whereas prices in GBP and EUR include tax.
Isn't EA FC 26 coming this month as well?
@PlusFan September 26th, what does it have to do with Silksong though?
@johnedwin yet you are comparing the physical edition to Hollow Knight to the digital edition of Silksong. Most people Do not buy Hollow Knight physically.
No, thanks to the magic of modern exchange rates, $20 is appropriately £14.78
@Ampelmann This makes an abundance of sense
Too cheap honestly
Probably going to buy it twice- one on steam and one on switch since the price is so reasonable. Big W Team Cherry
@N00BiSH beyond reasonable. Given the development time, just to break even they'll need to sell an insane number of copies. Unless team cherry just pays themselves minimum wage.
This is why game prices have universaly risen..while some game studios might just charge as much as they can get away with by default, some simply can't expect millions of sales and need more profits per sale to make any profit after covering development costs.
For £20, I’m tempted to buy it just to support the scene! Haven’t filled vibes with hollow night yet. The jumping felt off and I didn’t vibe with it… yet.
@Sylamp Oh, there was a video of games coming to NS2 in September around here.
20 bucks is a no brainer for a good game at full price.
over 20 is usually a "wait for a sale," even if it's a good game.
they nailed it, I'll probably buy this at full price just to be "in," even though I bought the first game and it didn't "click." 👍
@Fiskern and why is that you would think gamers would prefer a physical cart to a digital download.
@sketchturner I’m a backer, free for me!
@johnedwin I’m a physical collector too. I’m old school (I’m in my mid 40s). I was just showing where that $15 price came from that you originally inquired about.
I thought it would be $25 and decided that would be more than worth it, so this is a pleasant surprise
@Chibi Indeed, and add any US sales tax you like to that you're still not getting near £20 (just for those suggesting the pre-tax and post-tax situation fully accounts for the difference).
@Pak-Man I’m sure they know they’d get away with charging far more for it and fans would be happy to pay it. I think they’re just too humble to do it, they know they’ll still make an absolute fortune charging £20 while still making it affordable for most of their fans. By most accounts they don’t seem to be money driven at all- they will have made so much money from the first game that they could have comfortably retired years ago but they’ve carried on for the love of making games and not to get richer.
That Japanese price is considerably less than the European price! Wonder why. I mean I have no issues with paying £19.99 in the UK, but wonder why it's the equivalent of about £12 in Japan?
@jojobar Why should they? Releasing it for $10 would be crazy.
Reminder, every company can do this and still make profits. They just know the sheeple masses will pay whatever.
I know I'm getting this but I do wonder if they are going to be adding things piece by piece like they did in Hollowknight. I enjoyed the first game but I only played it once, I dont think I'm going to play this over and over again with each update.
@The_Nintendo_Pedant Ha, that’s my same barometer: over £20 I’ll wait. Sale knocks it under £20 instant buy (I’m looking at you Power Rangers). Over £50? Go f-yourselves.
Removed - unconstructive
Has an Indie game ever seen this level of hype?
I swear it’s like the Halo 2 of Indie games in terms of hype and excitement.
After all this time, how is it not releasing physical on release? That’s insane to me.
@larryisaman hope the game is piping hot.
Has it been reasonably priced? Why haven’t they updated posts on other social media platforms to say the price why is only the BlueSky? A social medial platform so obscure that I hadn’t heard off until yesterday 😂 yet their instagram which they are active on and their twitter doesn’t mention a thing………the store pages for Silksong are not updated either on any platform. I’m calling it now £30-€30-$35
I am hoping for the low price but I can’t see 6 years of development and the game being only £5 more than the OG price. Will be amazing if so
@OrtadragoonX The closest I can think of would be Hades 2.
Mind you, even that came after nowhere near as long a wait, and I'd think that the drawn out development of Silksong has only added to the anticipation for it.
Not often something is priced cheaper than you’d expect. Guess I’ll be buying some merch from Fangamer 😁
Also respect to the devs for taking their time, creating the game they wanna make, and pricing it in a way that allows the most people to enjoy it. This is what making games should be about!
@Yydeckard Excellent point about Bananza. I feel like I got great value out of that as well. I'll say the same about AC Shadows and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Had over 200 hours in the second and over 100 in the first. That's incredible value, imo.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the $20 price tag on Silksong. Pricing it so low gives me pause about how much content there will be out of the gate. But, as someone that did not enjoy the first Hollow Knight, I'll pay $20 to give this one a shot.
